There are many ways to achieve a sense of calm, but one of the simplest is by using bedroom paint colors. Feeling stressed? Can’t fall asleep at night? Why don’t you consider painting your walls with a cool, soothing shade?

In this article, we will take a look at a handful of colors you can use, especially when you are trying to create a serene atmosphere in your retreat.

Photo by Christen Ales Interior Design

When you are searching for a way to create a relaxing atmosphere in your bedroom, it is important that you use cool hues such as gray, blue, green, or purple to lend a hand in creating this. These bedroom paint colors can help to reduce stress and anxiety, as well as make the room appear more spacious. If you have a small bedroom, then this is a good choice for you.

1. Dark Gray-Blue: Drama with Serenity

One of our favorite bedroom paint colors is a dark gray-blue. It is dramatic, yet still maintains a cool and relaxed atmosphere. If you’re worried about introducing a deep color to your room, it might be a good idea to consider how you can break it up with a decorative headboard or large piece of artwork.

When designing a room with dark gray-blue walls, add plenty of white elements and perhaps go for a classic bright white ceiling to help bounce light around. If you want to warm up a cool color palette, it is best to use warm-hued materials such as wood as well as natural fibers such as sisal, sea grass, and jute to make it feel warmer.

2. Soft Grey: Lightness with Subtle Tones

Consider a lighter shade of gray for your walls and ceiling. Rooms with pure white walls and ceiling can sometimes feel cold, stark, and uninviting to your home. It is still possible to create a light and bright space by adding a small amount of gray to either one or both of them, but the slight contrast between them gives the space a more finished and less institutional appearance.

Photo by Ashwood Designs and Custom Homes

The soft gray color on the walls coupled with the darker gray elements in the space gives the room a very luxe feel – even in the midst of the cool hues. It is a bedroom that could easily pass for a high-end hotel room, thanks to the soft gray wall color.

3. Icy blue: Coolness with a Touch of Warmth

For inspiration in choosing colors that soothe and relax, we advise you to look to nature. On a crisp, clear day, the sky’s the perfect color to soothe and relax.

Those of us who want something a little more colorful than gray, but don’t want anything too dark, will love this shade of blue. To avoid a baby blue that is too pastel, look for one with only a slight hint of gray in order to avoid the pastel baby blue that is more appropriate for a nursery.

Photo by AR Homes by American Eagle Builders

The icy blue color can be used as a neutral in your palette, since it has a touch of gray in it, so it can be paired with almost any color you like since it has a touch of gray. As shown here, if you are looking to achieve a relaxing feeling in your space, combine the hue with warm grays and taupes to make the space feel more spacious.

4. Soft neutral green: Nature’s Serenity Indoors

In addition, these are also colors taken from nature that can elicit a sense of serenity and contentment if surrounded by them in your home. Sage, celery, or a light pistachio color can also be a good example. The reason we like these greens so much is that they can be paired with just a hint of color and still feel very elegant and grounded. Again, you need to find a green that has a good amount of gray in it so that it feels more grounded and elegant and not pastel.

5. Lavender: Sophistication into Sleep Spaces

A muted lavender wall color is a sophisticated option for a master bedroom. Purple is usually associated with stress reduction, so this super soft one is sure to lend a calming aura to your master bedroom.

This color isn’t your teenager’s purple bedroom. There is certainly a chilly tone to it, though, so you must think about how you can counteract it with warm wood floors or warm-hued carpets to counter that coolness. The combination of lavender with dark grays, blacks, and silver tones creates a grown-up atmosphere. The color also works well with silver tones.

It’s a great idea to take some time to think about what bedroom paint colors would be best for your home. Consult with our team of painting professionals for a free estimate so you can make an informed decision.

Painting the interior of a home with white wall paint is one of the best ways to transform it into a new space with a fresh, clean look. We’ve even had some of our clients paint their walls before their boxes arrive at their new house – just a few days after they purchased it!

However, there are many aspects of white paint that make a room seem magical, but that same white paint can make another room seem terrifyingly cold. As with all colors, white is associated with a number of different characteristics, including temperature, mood, light reflectivity, style, and more.

There are a number of things you need to keep in mind when painting with white, and if you ignore them, your seemingly crisp and fresh white paint will seem very off. But don’t worry – it’s really easy to add a little color for a touch of warmth or to tone the white down.

Before you paint your walls white, consider these factors:

1. Consider the Natural Light Source

Before painting a room white, consider its orientation. Rooms facing away from the noonday sun, like bedrooms, gyms, and studios, receive gray-blue light, making them ideal for consistent lighting. Opting for clear white paint can maximize light while keeping these spaces cool.

In contrast, a north-facing family room in a winter city like Vancouver may not suit white walls, as they can feel chilling against the snowy landscape outside. For areas where you eat, socialize, or spend time, consider tinting white with warm colors like red, yellow, or orange from Benjamin Moore’s Off-White Collection. These warm hues can replicate sunshine’s warmth and create a positive ambiance.

Photo by Rufty Custom Built Homes and Remodeling

West-facing rooms receive direct sunlight, often illuminating them with a bright yellow-red glow. White walls can help maintain a cool atmosphere in these spaces, with the option to adjust glare using pigments like gray. However, one color option may not suit all lighting situations, so consider the usage patterns of your rooms throughout different seasons.

Benjamin Moore’s Off-White Collection offers a range of whites with different tones, from cool tones like blue, gray, or green to warm tones like red, orange, or yellow. Utilize the fan deck included in your paint brand’s product information to discern the underlying hue of each white option.

Photo by Anderson Nikolich Design Initiative

2. What’s Outside Affects What’s Inside

Observe the foliage outside the window to determine its impact on lighting. In winter, the sun shines more, while in summer, trees provide shade.

Adding color to white, known as “dirtying the white,” can enhance its appearance. However, gray-green trees lose brightness after the winter solstice, while whiter trees reflect too much light. Rooms with ocean views feel spacious; in contrast, white walls evoke the coolness of water.

Photo by NB Design Group, Inc

The concept of transference explains why we perceive colors as warm or cold based on our sensory experiences. White, often considered the coldest color alongside blues, grays, and greens, evokes the sensation of ice and snow. Our visual perception is influenced by our expectations, so colors associated with heat or cold can affect us. Despite varying temperatures and changing views, white remains a suitable choice for year-round shoreside houses. By framing the coolness outside and maintaining the architectural integrity, a creamy white with a hint of yellow-orange pigment enhances the surroundings.

Photo by Studio Sarah Willmer Architecture

Ensure the trim of your home matches your white walls if you already have them. White paint maintains a frameless landscape appearance, expanding the view’s presence by eliminating the delineation between walls and woodwork. This strategy, painting both walls and trim white, is most effective due to its reflectivity, but it can work with any color.

3. Reconsider the Gallery Look

A gallery does this for a reason: It directs attention to artwork rather than architectural details on the walls. Also, this principle applies to homes.

A white wall may seem stark and uncomfortable without notable art or a scenic view. However, it tends to highlight imperfections and disorder. In many cases, families opt for khaki over pristine white to conceal bumps and marks.

4. Pay Attention to History

In terms of style, white is classic, formal, refined, and restrained. If you’re planning a Greek revival or federal interior, white wall paint is likely for trim and walls in the kitchen and bedrooms. On the other hand, painting everything white can make your house resemble a builder’s ‘flip.’

To ensure your color choices complement your architecture, respect contextual requirements. Nothing says “wrong” more than pairing white wall paint with walls painted a saturated color.

5. Use White to Expand Spaces

White walls create an illusion of spaciousness by amplifying light and reducing shadows and edges. Moreover, cool white reflects light, enlarging and opening up small spaces.

Moreover, cool white reflects light, enlarging and opening up small spaces. Additionally, successive rooms with subtle changes in hue enhance spatial perceptions and navigation habits better than stark contrasts.

To implement this, choose a white from the paint company’s fan deck and paint the smallest room with the darker value. Finally, adjust the overall size of each space based on the color’s value.

6. Add Texture to White to Avoid That Sterile Look

A white wall, trim, countertop, cabinet or fixture would look cleaner in a bathroom or kitchen. White wall paint is often associated with cleanliness, so it is ideal for preparing a house for sale and wanting to make the best first impression.

You can, however, make a bathroom look sterile, even boring, by reducing its design elements to just one color. If a room is whitewashed, it can have some drawbacks. A simple addition of textured wall surfaces like beadboard can often make the reduced palette pop by adding enough interest.

<img decoding="async" src="https://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/pictures/closets/sunset-plaza-smith-firestone-associates-img~abe13b3602d47fb7_8-5916-1-c5be855.jpg" alt="White Wall Paint| Elegant white closet with cabinets and chandelier.

7. The Closets Don’t Need to Match the Room’s Walls

In most closets, windows are absent, and lighting is often an afterthought, resulting in poorly lit spaces, which is far from ideal when selecting an outfit for an important meeting.

LRV numbers on color cards at paint stores indicate the light-reflective value of your white wall paint. Higher LRV numbers mean more light reflection, which is beneficial for closet interiors.

White wall paint in galleries enhances surrounding colors, aiding in selecting outfit color combinations for the day.

You don’t need to paint your closet interior the same color as your bedroom walls; instead, tint it with a percentage of your bedroom wall color.

<img decoding="async" src="https://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/pictures/kitchens/dennis-bayview-cape-reef-cape-cod-s-home-builder-img~7e41e47f03c82839_8-1221-1-048c1ff.jpg" alt="A kitchen with a large ocean-view island, featuring white details.

In the world of paint, white is both simple and sophisticated. It’s crisp appearance satisfies our desire to give our homes a new look and look.

Painting a room or a series of rooms in this cool, calm color is like taking a leap of faith, like you have to do when you cut your hair short.

Take an adventuresome approach to your home’s design by looking at its site, taking into account the light, and making a confident jump into a fresh, clean-cut interior design by taking a sure foot.

When it comes to choosing ceiling paint colour, there are countless subtle shades available, including classic white for your walls. However, there’s no definitive right or wrong way to paint a ceiling.

It is very important to know about all of your options because if you overlook them, you might be making a mistake that stays with you for many years to come. The following tips will help you choose a ceiling paint colour that best suits your design, whether you prefer a ceiling that blends in with your walls, coordinates with them or contrasts with them.

1. White Ceilings Paint Colour

As far as coating the ceiling with a crisp white paint goes, it is easily one of the most popular and safest options, and it certainly isn’t a bad colour choice to stick with. Yet there are many elements involved in getting a crisp white paint finish.

Generally speaking, when you have a room with white walls without any noticeable undertones, a similarly untinted white ceiling paint color will also work well in creating the illusion of a gallery-like experience.

There are, however, certain things to take into consideration if your walls aren’t pure white. For instance, you need to consider how the tones of the two surfaces will appear next to each other, whether to match or contrast, or whether to go somewhere in between.

2. Ceiling paint colour That Match the Walls

Choosing an off-white or watered-down shade of white as the color of your walls is the easiest way to create that natural warm tone you want, and the best solution is to use the same shade for the ceiling paint color as well. In the example above, you can see that the walls and ceiling are all the same shade of white, resulting in giving the room a bit of texture.

By using the same color on both the walls and the ceiling, the visual emphasis is placed on the other features of the room, such as furnishings, architectural elements, and artwork, instead of the points where surfaces meet.

Even with bright white moldings, still, less contrast between walls and ceiling helps moldings blend in. Using the same pale neutral color throughout helps creating a consistent and serene interior.

That said, richer colors on the ceiling tend to shrink the space. However, in tall rooms or for a cozy atmosphere, this may not be a concern.

3. Ceilings Tinted with Matching Paint Color to Coordinate With the Walls

Even with bright white moldings breaking up the walls and ceiling, minimal contrast between them allows the ceiling to blend away, enhancing the moldings’ visibility.

Using the same pale neutral color throughout the home creates a serene and welcoming interior, especially when maintained consistently across all spaces.

In some cases, depending on your style, you may be better off choosing a paler shade of your wall colour from the same family. Choosing what’s essentially a lighter shade of your wall colour guarantees that it will look coordinated.

When it comes to bold hues, selecting a single off-white shade from the same paint chip for your walls may not be feasible. Instead, consult a painting professional or knowledgeable paint store associate for a custom formulation based on your wall colors.

At home, then swatch it. If it doesn’t work, adjustments can be made much more easily than if you were to mix your own concoctions.

Photo by 4 Real Construction, Inc

4. Ceilings Darker Than the Walls

Adding the same tint to paints can have the opposite effect of highlighting the architecture and creating a more intimate atmosphere. This is evident in the dark color used in the ceiling cove in this dining room.

It’s important to note that this accent shade wasn’t chosen randomly. Its tones match the color of the walls and the white trim on the doors and moldings of the home. The trim color was likely chosen simultaneously with the ceiling color to avoid subtle conflicts.

By using a neutral gray for a dark ceiling, you can create a livable atmosphere without adding color undertones. This choice is ideal for those who want a bold look without the risk associated with vibrant hues, especially in areas where repainting is challenging.

When selecting a neutral gray, it can be challenging to find the right shade in-store. Colors may appear differently when applied, so it’s wise to swatch a few options at home and order oversized swatches to see them in person before committing.

5. Ceilings as a True Accent

Sometimes, a striking effect can be achieved by contrasting the ceiling with the walls. For instance, this living room features deep espresso brown ceiling coves against warm-toned walls, creating a distinct contrast. Coordinating such colors can be challenging, but various strategies can help.

One approach is to swatch the colors together on a long plank to visualize how they interact. Starting with suggested color combinations can be helpful, but it’s essential to assess how they appear in your home’s ambient light.

As a second tip, consider matching the ceiling paint color to the wall treatment for a seamless look. In this case, the ceiling is the same color as the walls.

Alternatively, select fabrics or artworks with similar shades to replicate the texture for coordination. Keep in mind the ceiling paint color’s visibility, so choose a neutral shade for a polished appearance.

<img decoding="async" src="https://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/pictures/bedrooms/walnut-creek-modern-farmhouse-larkey-park-the-home-co-img~373154310a8646f0_8-4671-1-abd3858.jpg" alt="Bedroom with bed, dresser, and window.
6. Crisp White Ceilings for Contrast

In order to achieve a positive contrast with the walls, let’s go back to where we started and talk about pure white. A pure white ceiling can look perfect despite not matching the colour of the walls so far as the other elements in the room are white such as white linen and other accents.

Having a pale beige wall paired with a bright white ceiling makes the wall colour stand out much more. By doing so, it gives this traditional townhouse a sense of freshness that wouldn’t work in a less modern home, yet would give it the feel of something very modern.

A purely white ceiling adds a touch of class and elegance to an otherwise plain space, especially when combined with a mix of warm and cool neutrals, such as brick, wood, and even black window trims. The white acts as a middle ground between the diverse colours used in the room.

The process of painting a commercial space can be challenging. Most likely, you want your business to continue operating while the painters are at work. The question is, what can be done to keep disruptions to an absolute minimum?

Getting ready for a commercial painting contractor’s visit to your private business is the simple task. The task of painting your commercial space remains one of the most challenging, even if you use a professional painter.

Reviving the image of your company requires a lot of brainstorming and consideration of the following questions:

What colours should you paint your interior and exterior?

Should you get a gloss, flat, or satin finish?

What is your commercial painting budget?

Is your budget sufficient to hire a professional painter who can complete the job perfectly?

Is there anything your company needs to prepare before your professional painters arrive?

In addition to these questions, you will have many others running through your mind.

During commercial painting preparation, it is necessary to prepare the main surfaces, since rough, unprepared surfaces do not adhere well to paint. When paint does not adhere to the surface, it peels, bubbles, flakes, and cracks.

Commercial painting requires extensive surface preparation. Before applying the first coat of paint, it may take some time depending on the size of the building.

Attempting to complete the surface preparation process in a hurry will result in cracked paint. If this happens, you will have no choice but to restart the process from scratch.

9 Preparation Tips for Commercial Painting Contractors

By preparing your commercial space for professional painting, you can ensure that the entire project runs smoothly.

These 9 tips will help you get started:

1. Create a List

A checklist should be created that contains all the tasks to be performed as well as the area to be painted. It can be very helpful to note what you liked and disliked about the old paint job, as well as the project’s cost.

2. Hold One More Meeting With Your Professional Painters

You have been in contact with the painting contractors about your expectations for this project. Meet with your contractor one last time before the painter arrives to finalize all your project details.

To ensure a successful project, it is essential that everyone is on the same page regarding the entire scope, including the timeline, colour choice, and building components.

3. Determine the Colours You Want

You should discuss the colours you want for your commercial painting job with your contractor before the work begins. It is imperative that the colours you want are agreed upon before our commercial painters arrive to begin the work. The paint colours you want for your trim and other areas of your building will also be included in this list.

4. Prepare Your Workers

A large commercial painting project will disrupt your daily operations in some way. For this reason, it is important to make sure your workers are aware of the time the painting contractors will spend in the building and the areas of the establishment that will be affected.

Painting may begin after normal business hours, though some workers might still be affected by painting at that time.

You should also inform your workers whether they need to move any personal items out of the painter’s way. Moving workers and their items to another part of the commercial space may be necessary to expedite the painting process.

5. Move Delicate Items and Cover up the Floor

Commercial painters strive to make sure the customer’s items are not damaged during their work, but accidents can still happen.

Be sure to move any delicate items away from where the painters will be working to prevent accidents. Also, cover up the flooring to prevent dripping of paint onto your items.

6. Ensure Clear Access to the Areas They Will Paint

If you have a certain parking spot for them, you should let your painting contractors know ahead of time. Professional commercial painting crews are equipped with equipment that can be transported back and forth between work areas and their vehicles. A clear path will make your project easier, and it could speed up the process.

7. Perform Repairs Before the Painters Arrival

You might need to do some repair work before painting if some of the areas to be painted are damaged beyond what regular cleaning, hand sanding, and scrapping can handle. Third-party contractors may be the best choice in certain cases, such as large structural damage or decayed decorative fascia boards.

8. Get the Interior Ready

During the painting process, most furniture and equipment will be removed, but it is important for you to protect small and delicate objects like pictures, electronics, and glassware. You should also make sure that all windows are easy to open.

9. Ensure the Exterior Is Ready

Preparing your environment for exterior painting will speed up the entire project. Checking outdoor electrical power outlets, trimming back landscaping, checking water spigots are in working order if they need power washing, and leaving a space for painters to store tools and supplies are some of the things you can do before professional painters arrive.

When We Paint Your Commercial Building, You Can Expect the Following:

There is no doubt that the outside of your home suffers a lot of wear and tear over the course of its lifetime. Your homes exterior paint can be damaged by natural elements such as sun, wind, and rain, which can fade its vibrancy and finish. Likewise, improperly applied paint coatings can reduce the attractiveness of the exterior of your home and wear it down physically over time.

When searching for Greater Vancouver painting companies, it can be difficult to find one who prioritizes quality. Goodwell Painting, on the other hand, enjoys providing high-quality painting services that revitalize your home’s appearance. For a fresh look on your home, contact us about our exterior painting services.

When you pull into your driveway, your home’s exterior is the first thing you see. It is also the first thing your friends, family, and visitors will see! The exterior of your home plays a crucial role in the way we perceive a place, which is why it is helpful to know when it may need a little touch-up.

Your home may need exterior painting for a variety of reasons, but it can be hard to tell when it does. If your home’s exterior reveals any of the following four signs, then it may be time to speak with an experienced exterior painter at Goodwell Painting.

1. Fading exterior Paint

It is possible for the paint on your home’s exterior to fade over time as a result of extreme heat and direct sunlight. If you don’t have trees, mountains, or anything to shade your house from the sun, your home’s exterior can fade quite quickly.

Choosing a Greater Vancouver painting company and painter who takes the time to advise you about fading is important. Experienced exterior house painters like our team at Goodwell Painting can help you choose the right colour for your home and your home’s location. In this way, you can extend the life and energy of your home’s exterior paint.

2. exterior Paint That’s Peeling or Cracking

Peeling or cracking on the exterior of your home is another sign that it needs new paint. You might also need to consider a fresh coat of paint if you notice chipping and flaking along with peeling and cracking.

In addition to negatively impacting your home’s appearance, peeling or cracked exterior paint can cause significant damage. Dry rot, mould, and mildew can cause damage to your home if it does not have a protective coating of paint.

We can prevent the more serious problems caused by peeling or cracked paint by assessing your home and providing painting services before they cause major damage.

3. Shrinking Wood or Gaps in Wooden Boards

The exterior of your home should also be painted if you notice the wooden boards are shrinking or the gaps between the wooden boards are widening.

A home’s exterior can also suffer from serious damage due to shrinking wood and gaps in wooden boards, such as dry rot and mould. Your home’s exterior paint can serve as a protective barrier and prevent serious damage with a fresh coat of paint and regular maintenance.

4. You’re Preparing to Sell your home

Exterior painting can often make a world of a difference. Your home’s exterior can be made more attractive to prospective buyers and increase its value with a new colour and a proper finish.

When it comes to painting your home, it is important to hire professionals, but it can also be challenging to know what to look for. When hiring a professional, you should look for the following:

A home exterior painter who’s experienced

A professional painting contractor who wants to extend the life of your home’s paint job

Someone who will use quality, long-lasting paint and other materials

Companies and professional painters who prioritize and value quality service

Goodwell Painting offers a range of home exterior painting services which you can review on our website. We prioritize and value experienced painters and employees who can offer quality services in the Greater Vancouver area, and we always aim to provide quality customer service.

If you see fading paint on the exterior of your home, peeling or cracked paint, shrinking wood or gaps in wooden boards, or if you just want to be proactive about the appearance of your home, contact Goodwell Painting today!
